Easy Guitar Lesson - Info And Techniques For Initiates

Playing the guitar is difficult without a tutor. They can help you understand the styles, basics and even a few songs to get you going. The further tutoring you receive, the more advanced your skill set will become and you'll be playing complex musical scores in no time. But for the initial few months, even the simplest things may be out of your grasp. Sometimes, it's better to get a new perspective on things, as tutors often teach you their own way, which might be one of several correct ways. This easy guitar lesson contains information on how to play and the different styles of the basic movements and techniques you'll use on the guitar.

Bending The Strings

The nature of the guitar allows many different ways of manipulating the guitar strings. In this case, you'll be wanting to bend the string a short distance, such as to the next string along. When a note is held down and bent, it increases in pitch, allowing guitarists to make their guitar 'squeal', especially with high-gain on their amp. Bending correctly requires the string's pressure to be spread out over several fingers. This allows the player to manipulate the string more quickly and achieve a much better level of playing.

Depending on the note location, your hand may end up being in different places. However, if you can manage it, make sure your ring finger is on the note you wish to play. Press it down so that it will ring when struck. Now when you go to bend the string, push it away from you, using your middle and index fingers to push as well. String before bending and then bend during the ring. If done correctly, it will sound clean and the pitch will waver as you bend it different distances.

Slides

Another somewhat painful technique for beginners, especially if they slide too quickly and tear the skin, sliding from one note to another may sound easy. However, there are a number of ways to carry this out. Sliding from note 1 to note 2 is simple, simply place pressure down on the note, then pluck and slide your finger, while maintaining pressure, to the next note.

You can also slide to and from 'nowhere'. This is when you slide to a distant note, but allow the pressure to slacken over the transition, until there's no sound. This means the distant note is never heard, but it's a nice effect, especially for solos. You can also slide from nowhere to the note you wish to play for additional effects.
